While advocating the early release of her incarcerated husband Julie Magers becomes a vital resource surrounding the Maryland prison system. The film then expands out to look how families around the nation are dealing with their incarcerated people during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Julie Magers' world turned upside down when her husband, Michael Mehaffie, was sentenced to twenty years for commercial burglary. In the state of Maryland commercial burglary carries the same weight as murder. Over the past five years of incarceration Julie began to be an advocate for Michael mainly because he had entered jail with Multiple Sclerosis(MS) and has received far below the appropriate care to manage the disease. The care that Michael should’ve received for MS was never given and has left him permanently disabled from five years of neglect. Julie’s experience as a family member began to spark a movement to reform Maryland's correctional system and has begun to be even more highlighted with the COVID-19 pandemic. At risk inmates with health conditions began to die from COVID-19 on Michael’s tier, thrusting Julie into a race against time to get a sentence modification for his early release.
